Lots of messages in this latest round of communications. I think I'm finally getting all the mail forwarded from the space station I was previously on. 

Good news first: My oldest sister has just had a baby boy! She sent me a video and he is precious~ That makes one nephew and three nieces altogether. 

Bad news: The farm and orchards are completely unviable now and we probably will have to sell the land... I suppose there's not really anything we can do. My parents are thinking of starting up a farm on a colony somewhere with some of the cryopreserved plant stocks. They're still planning, so we'll see what happens.

I told my sisters about Byodoin-san's interest in me. They say a Lt. Commander is a catch (ha!) and that I should give him a chance. He's not really my type but he's not as horrible as I thought, either, and he's really nice to me. I was going to see how it goes, but now there's the complication of Byodoin-san having a child... I'm ... not really sure of my feelings  about the matter right now so I'll hold off on making any decisions, I think.

Congratulations on the family addition, but I am sorry to hear about your family's land. It's on Earth, right? Unfortunately, Earth is becoming completely inhospitable. The fact that the land lasted this long is a testament to your family's hard work.

Yes, we are on Earth! There are still some lovely pockets of natural land left, but who knows for how long. We used to get lots and lots of snow and therefore lots of glacier-fed springs, but that's all gone now. Then forest fires and soil erosion... we tried our best, I'd like to believe.

I'd heard it's becoming harder and harder to farm on Earth. Surprised your family made it this long with a traditional farm, really.

There are still some good spots, but of course that's in high demand. I don't think we'll be able to buy any arable land on Earth anyway.

Well... it was handed down over the generations so it seemed like a waste to let it go... but we must adjust to the times.

I hope your family can find a good place to relocate to. I don't know enough about farming to give any advice, but I can see how letting go of land that had been in the family for so long would be hard.

And yes, I imagine he is very cute. What's his name?

I am sorry about the farm though. Let me know if they decide to farm on another colony. Depending on where they go, I might have some contacts who can help source seeds, saplings, and seedlings.

They're still figuring things out. Do you have any suggestions where they could go? I suppose they could come here, though we're kind of in the early development stage still.

I think it depends on what they'd like to grow. Prime or Rainbow would be the best bets, if they want something close to "Earth" living or "traditional" farming. I don't recall Tannhauser having any farmable land, but could be good for a similar setup to what we are doing here on Yomi

Hmm... both Prime and Rainbow are decent options. Perhaps I should talk to people from these colonies to see what the environment is like. Thank you for the suggestions!
